Post-Doctoral Researcher, APC Microbiome Ireland, UCC

Role: Postdoctoral Fellow. 45 Month, Fixed-term, Whole-time Post. Job ID: 063731

Department: APC Microbiome Ireland

Infection with viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, can lead to long term debilitating symptoms via mechanisms that are currently poorly understood. We appreciate that the composition and metabolic activity of the intestinal microbiota can impact immune function and microbe-immune interactions may contribute to recovery from infectious diseases. We are looking for an enthusiastic Immunologist to join our team as a postdoctoral researcher. At a minimum, applicants should have prior experience of isolating and culturing primary human immune cells and evaluating cellular signalling processes using assays such as flow cytometry. Applicants who also have prior experience with single cell RNAseq and/or mass cytometry will be prioritised.

APC Microbiome Ireland was formed in 2003 and since then, it has established itself as one of the leading global centres in gut microbiota research. The Centre has made several landmark discoveries and published over 3500 research articles in peer-reviewed journals, generating many journal covers and associated editorials. The APC is a lively multidisciplinary environment with clinicians, clinician-scientists and basic scientists from diverse backgrounds working in teams, sharing ideas and resources.

UCC is an accredited research organisation and as such can form hosting agreements with third country nationals (and non-EEA nationals) for the purpose of conducting research in the University.
