ISI EXECUTIVE BOARD & COMMITTEE
WHO WE ARE
The ISI was formed in 1984 and in 1985 we hosted our inaugural research conference. Since then the society has grown from strength to strength. We now represent over 200 immunology researchers across Ireland. Our main activities include our annual research meeting. This is a two day event bringing together world-class international and national immunology researchers, including early career and established researchers. Each year we award the “ISI Annual Award for Immunology” to an exceptional immunology researcher either in Ireland or abroad who has Irish roots. Finally, we run a number of outreach events dedicated to educating and entertaining the public on the subject of immunology.
Meet the ISI Executive Board
The ISI Executive Committee Members are all honorary members with strong links to the Irish immunology community. They serve the Society by facilitating interactions with the members and the public, organising events, by acting as liaisons with Universities, pharma industry, patient organisations, etc. Their mission is to help realise the Society's goals and promote Immunology at a national and international level.
ISI PRESIDENT
Prof Joanne Lysaght
Area of Expertise: Professor in Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy, Trinity College Dublin and Trinity St. James’s Cancer Institute. Interested in cancer immunology/immunotherapy, obesity, GI cancer & pre-malignant conditions.
ISI VICE PRESIDENT
Dr Michelle Armstrong
Area of Expertise: Assistant Professor in Translational Respiratory Medicine, Trinity College Dublin. Interested in the role of human immune gene variants in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary sarcoidosis and cystic fibrosis.
ISI SECRETARY
Dr Aideen Ryan
Area of Expertise:
Lecturer in Tumour Immunology at National University Galway. She investigates immune modulation of mesenchymal stromal cells, colon tumour cell and stromal cell interactions in the colon cancer microenvironment and cancer immune-evasion.
ISI TREASURER
Dr. Eoin McNamee
Asst Prof & leader of the Mucosal Immunology Research Lab at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. His lab investigates inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and immune responses at the intestinal mucosal.
ECI 2024 CONGRESS PRESIDENT
Prof Ed Lavelle
Area of Expertise: Professor in Immunology at Trinity College Dublin. Researcher on vaccine adjuvants for infection and cancer and on novel biomaterials.
