The ISI are pleased to announce that this year's recipient of the ISI Public Lecture Award is Professor Cliona O' Farrelly.

Prof. O'Farrelly is a TCD graduate and worked as a post-doctoral researcher and lecturer at Harvard University in Boston, USA and Sussex University, UK. She was Director of the research laboratories in St. Vincent's University Hospital, Dublin from 1993 to 2007. She then took up her new post in the School of Biochemistry, TCD as Professor of comparative immunology.

Prof. O'Farrelly's pioneering research focuses on identifying species-specific and individual- specific differences in immune genes and molecules, in order to develop target-directed therapies. She also served as the president of the ISI from 2000 to 2007, during which time she contributed immensely to the society.

Prof. O' Farrelly will present her RDS/Irish Times/ISI public lecture, entitled: "Bugs or US: Immunity and the Battle for Survival" in the Merrion Room, RDS at 7.00pm on Thursday, 15th May 2008.
