The ISI are pleased to announce that this year's recipient of the ISI Public Lecture Award is Professor Alex Whelan. This award will be presented to Prof. Whelan, in recognition of his contribution to the field of immunology and health improvement.

Prof. Alex Whelan is a chief medical scientist at St. James's Hospital in Dublin and a senior lecturer in immunology at Trinity College.

"Can you think yourself well?" asks Prof. Whelan. In an Irish Times/RDS Science Today/ISI lecture entitled: "You Are Your Immune System," Prof. Whelan will discuss new evidence of a surprisingly strong link between the immune system and other biological systems, including the senses. He will also discuss the growing evidence that suggests that we can influence how well our immune systems work.
